Writing in Sydney
I began writing professionally as a journalist for the Sydney Morning Herald, becoming arts editor of the Eastern Herald, then features editor at the then-popular cultural and fashion-oriented Follow Me Magazine, now defunct. All this took place way back in the 80s.
Writing on the South Coast
After a sea-change, a case of amnesia and recovery (which involved teaching myself to read and write again), I have written on staff for The Illawarra Mercury and its sister paper the Advertiser. Thus bringing my history of working with Fairfax publications to over a decade. I covered the controversial Sandon Point protests in Bulli for both papers in hundreds of articles, plus covering arts and local events.
I was the editor and wrote for the Illawarra’s then only youth and arts publication, Sparx Magazine, on which we trained up your people in photography, writing and design. It was funded by Arts NSW.
I have a PhD in Creative Writing obtained in 2013 from the University of Wollongong.
