Writing in Sydney
I began writing professionally as a journalist for the Sydney Morning Herald, becoming arts editor of the Eastern Herald, then features editor at the then-popular Sydney cultural and fashion Follow Me Magazine, now defunct. All this took place way back in the 80s.
Writing on the South Coast
After a sea-change, a response to my case of amnesia and recovery (which involved teaching myself to read and write again), I have written on staff for The Illawarra Mercury and its sister paper the Advertiser. This bringing my history of working with Fairfax publications to over 15 years. For the Illawarra press, I covered the controversial Sandon Point protests in Bulli for both papers in hundreds of articles, plus covering arts, news and local events.
I was the editor and wrote for the Illawarra’s then only youth and arts publication, Sparx Magazine, on which we trained university graduates in photography, writing and design. It was funded by Arts NSW.
Doctor of Philosophy, Creative Writing
I have a PhD in Creative Writing obtained in 2013 from the University of Wollongong.
I have worked as an inhouse copywriter and/or publicity and marketing teams for The Board of Studies NSW; Power Publications, the University of Sydney; TAFE NSW and Wingz Marketing.
